Replace the statue of Edward Colston with a memorial to slaves who built Britain

The Issue

After the successful tearing down of the statue of 17th century slave trader Edward Colston by Black Lives Matter protesters in Bristol, I’m asking the government not to try and replace the statue but instead move forward to understand why it’s important to replace it with a memorial that remembers the 80,0000 plus black lives that were forcibly removed from their homes to become slaves as well as the 19,000 estimated to have died during the crossing...

Instead of lauding slave traders let’s instead remember the slaves who built Bristol and the rest of Britain and to NEVER FORGET that Britain was built on the backs of slaves...so the least they deserve is a memorial.
