Bristol City Council and WECA proposal of installing EV Chargers in dangerous locations

Bristol City Council and WECA proposal of installing EV Chargers in dangerous locations
The Issue
There are three schools located along Wick Road, and every day, countless children from the Sutton Estate cross these roads on their way to and from school. The proposal to install an electric vehicle (EV) charger at the corner junction of Sunnydene and Wick Road poses a grave risk to these children and the general public. This junction is already notorious for being a blind spot and has been the site of numerous accidents, including one incident where a car crashed through the garden wall of 1 Sunnydene.
It is a matter of public safety that such installations be thoroughly scrutinised and strategically located to avoid already dangerous areas. The installation of an EV charger at this particular junction not only exacerbates existing safety issues but also signals a lack of engagement and consultation with key stakeholders—our local councillors and Clarion Housing. Councillors Jos Clark and Andrew Varney have expressed their concerns and do not support the installation.
Bristol City Council has a responsibility to ensure the safety of its residents. By pushing forward with this ill-advised installation without proper consultation, they are putting families, children, and everyday commuters at risk. A blind spot juncture is no place for additional infrastructure that could further compromise visibility and safety.
We urge Bristol City Council to halt any plans for installing EV chargers at dangerous locations like the Sunnydene/Wick Road junction. Instead, they should work closely with local representatives, residents, and stakeholders to identify more suitable and safe locations for these necessary advancements in green technology.
Please join us in urging the council to stop this potentially dangerous installation and to prioritise the safety of our residents. Sign the petition today to protect our community.
