Bring Zack Shahin - Illegally Detained, Dying, American Citizen - Home

The Issue

American citizen, father of two, husband and Houstonian, Zack Shahin, in violation of international norms of justice and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been held at Al Awir Jail, in Dubai since 2008. He was abducted from a business meeting on March 23rd 2008, held incommunicado and tortured for 17 days, only to then begin the never-ending nightmare of his perpetual detainment. The UAE charged Zack with financial crimes - however, were not able to convict him for almost 10 years. Even after Zack was cleared by the Big 4 accounting firms, the UAE convicted him to an almost life in prison sentence. As if 15 years of being wrongfully detained was not bad enough - Zack is now rotting in a Dubai hospital, and his condition is only worsening. Newly obtained medical records show that Zack Shahin, a Lebanese American from Texas, is suffering from cardiovascular and neurological issues, thyroid, gastro and prostate illnesses as well as infections that are causing his flesh to rot, among other ailments. He has been in the hospital for over three months now, and has undergone two abdominal surgeries thus far.

"In summary, this patient has disease in multiple organ systems, and his long term prognosis is dire," Dr. Sanford Lubetkin, who is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology, wrote in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken pleading for help. "His overall health conditions are unacceptable at best." Dr. Sanford Lubetkin has indicated that if nothing is done, ZACK COULD DIE WITHIN WEEKS.

We demand President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary of State Blinken, Members of the United States Congress, the Ambassador to the UAE and His Royal Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayed to work together and secure the medical pardon and release of Zack Shahin back to Houston, Texas - in order that he receive proper medical attention and treatment in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He has been separated from his family long enough and it is time to bring him home - and not in a body bag.
