Growing up, I've always been an avid fan of cinema, and the excitement of going to the movies still gives me the same thrill. When I first experienced IMAX, I was overwhelmed by the quality—the massive screen, crystal-clear images, and the immersive sound that makes you feel like you're part of the action. Unfortunately, this world-class experience is not readily available in India. We have cinemas branded under the IMAX name, but they lack the genuine features that make IMAX the gold standard for cinematic viewing.
India is home to one of the largest film industries in the world, producing hundreds of films each year. Millions of movie lovers like me want the opportunity to enjoy films the way they were meant to be seen. The current IMAX screening options in India don't meet the global standards—they often have smaller screens and inferior audio systems, which undermine the experience of watching a film in all its intended grandeur. This is disappointing for cinema enthusiasts who know the magic of genuine IMAX experiences.
According to reports, the real IMAX experience requires specific technical specifications: film resolution must support formats like IMAX GT or IMAX GT 3D, screens should be larger than 70 feet wide, and the sound system must have a minimum of 12,000 watts of power. Unfortunately, most IMAX theatres in India don't meet these international benchmarks. Moviegoers aren't getting what they pay for and deserve.
We are calling upon cinema chains such as PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis to invest in upgrading their current IMAX facilities to true IMAX standards. This will not only elevate the cinematic experience in India but could also spur local craftsmanship and innovation in cinema technology. A true IMAX experience isn’t just a luxury; it’s an appreciation for the art of storytelling through visual means and should be accessible to audiences nationwide.
