Bring the USS Pueblo Home from North Korea

Bring the USS Pueblo Home from North Korea
The Issue
In 1968, my father was stationed in Japan, on the USS Surfbird, ADG 383, and witnessed a routine personnel change on the USS Pueblo. Little did he know that the ship would soon fall into enemy hands, altering the lives of all those aboard. That day, one crew member tragically lost his life and 82 others were captured, marking the beginning of a harrowing ordeal.
The USS Pueblo, originally an intelligence ship, was seized by North Korea and has been held captive for over five decades. Despite this, it remains a commissioned U.S. Navy vessel. Its return is not just about repatriating a ship but is a powerful gesture of honor and closure — especially for the veterans of that era and their families.
Many who served during this tumultuous time are aging, and with them, the history and stories of their generation are beginning to fade. The USS Pueblo's return would serve as a lasting tribute to their sacrifices and experiences, keeping their memory alive for future generations.
North Korea's possession of the USS Pueblo is not simply a relic of the past. It represents an unresolved chapter of American military history. With escalating global tensions, now is the time to foster reconciliation and understanding. The ship's return would be a step toward this goal, signifying a willingness to turn the page and promote healing between nations.
We are at a crucial moment, where momentum and collective will could make the improbable possible. By gathering support and raising awareness, we can press the U.S. government and international bodies to negotiate for the Pueblo's return.
Please lend your voice to this cause. Help bring the USS Pueblo home, restoring a piece of history and honoring the legacy of those who endured its voyage.
Sign this petition to urge action towards the return of the USS Pueblo from North Korea, and to honor the struggle and memory of those who were aboard. Together, we can work towards a historically significant reconciliation, preserving the legacy of an entire generation for future ones to come.
