The Issue

Basketball has always been more than just a sport to me; it's a passion, a way of life that I hold dearly. Growing up in Seattle, I always felt like there was something missing. Our city misses celebrating every slam dunk and every victory of the Seattle SuperSonics which fueled our vibrant community.

The Seattle SuperSonics, since their inception in 1967, were a vital part of the community, giving fans across the city something to rally behind. They weren’t just our team; they were a symbol of unity and pride for Seattle. Sadly, in 2008, the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City, leaving Seattle without an NBA team. The absence is felt deeply by fans like myself who grew up hoping for their return.

The economic and cultural impact of having an NBA team in Seattle cannot be overstated. With the city's booming growth and development, bringing the SuperSonics back would not only revive a beloved team but also enhance our city’s economy. A local sports franchise generates tourism, creates jobs, and stimulates the local business environment. Seattle is poised for this resurgence.

Numerous reports have talked about the possibility of an NBA expansion or relocation team in Seattle. With robust fan support, proven local ownership with strong financial backing, and the recent renovation of the Seattle Center Arena, the pieces are already in place. All that remains is to demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the fans.

Seattle deserves to have its legacy revived, to hear the echoes of fans chanting in a packed arena, to experience the unparalleled thrill of NBA games once more. I urge the NBA and key stakeholders to prioritize Seattle as a home for a future NBA team. Sign this petition to show your support and help bring the SuperSonics back to our beloved city.
