THANK YOU FOR STANDING UP FOR STEVE!
This week, we delivered this petition signed by nearly 6,500 people and Sue Alford's petition with a further 700 signatures to five of LBC/Global's big bosses at 30 Leicester Square (see picture), meaning more than 7,000 of you have had your voices heard by LBC.
At 12.38pm on Tuesday 5th September, with the help of Royal Mail's registered delivery service, we descended upon LBC's Charing Cross Road back entrance and forced Global to send down an employee to sign for our five huge envelopes, each containing a 220-page petition booklet.
Each booklet contains the names and locations of each and every one of you who signed your names to this campaign since February - and all of your very heartfelt, thoughtful, and detailed comments. Your protests have made it to the desks of Ashley Tabor-King (President of Global) and LBC/Global supersuits Stephen Miron, Tom Cheal, Stephen Rigley and James Rea.
Well, almost all of the comments. Sadly, a few individuals decided to use the petition as a place to make hateful comments about Steve Allen and about the organisers of this campaign. Naturally, those comments had to be removed before presenting this to Global.
The important thing is that your voices have been heard. Within an hour of the petitions arriving at LBC, we tweeted the five above-named bosses to remind them that our voices cannot be ignored.
Just when they might have started to think all was quiet on the western front - six months after Steve's sudden and unexplained disappearance from the airwaves - we have shown LBC they can't just remove presenters without a major fuss being kicked up in view of the entire public.
We've shown the moneymen who run LBC from the backrooms of their 30 Leicester Square ivory tower that we know who they are - and that, as listeners, we won't be discounted or ignored. That's all any of us can do in this situation.
We also tried to get a story about this into Steve's local paper, the Richmond and Twickenham Times, but they don't pick up the phone or answer emails. We've called them every day this week and emailed at least two of their editors but no dice. And the national media are not interested in this campaign - we've tried there as well.
By the way, although we have delivered the petition, as it stands, in hard copy form, we are keeping it open online because people are continuing to sign it every day.
We are hoping for a written response from LBC so we'll let you know what happens next and thanks again!
Paul and campaign team.
