Bring Sports back to CCMS
The Issue
BRING BACK MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS AT CALIFORNIA CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL
To: Mojave Unified School District Governing Board and District Administration
We, the parents, students, guardians, educators, coaches, and community members of California City, respectfully ask Mojave Unified School District to restore, expand, and sustain organized middle-school sports at California City Middle School.
Our middle-school students deserve the opportunity to represent their school, develop their athletic abilities, build confidence, learn teamwork and discipline, and prepare for high-school athletics.
Sports are more than games. They give students a reason to stay involved, build friendships, develop leadership skills, stay physically active, and take pride in their school and community.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
We respectfully ask Mojave Unified School District to:
Bring organized middle-school sports back to California City Middle School.
Survey students and families to determine which sports have the greatest interest.
Provide appropriate coaches, stipends, equipment, uniforms, facilities, transportation, and scheduling.
Provide equitable athletic opportunities for girls and boys.
Give parents and the community a clear timeline for implementing a sustainable CCMS athletics program.
Explain how current LCAP funding and other available resources designated for middle-school sports and enrichment are being used.
Possible programs could include volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, flag football, track/cross-country, cheer, and other sports based on student interest and available resources.
OUR KIDS DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY
California City has talented young athletes. Middle school should be the bridge between youth recreational sports and high-school athletics—not a gap where students lose the opportunity to participate.
We want our students entering California City High School with experience, confidence, school pride, and an understanding of what it means to be part of a team.
Please bring middle-school sports back to California City Middle School.
By signing this petition, I am asking Mojave Unified School District and its Governing Board to develop and communicate a plan for organized middle-school athletics at California City Middle School.
Our kids. Our school. Our community. Let's bring CCMS sports back!
