Bring Safe Walking Paths and Beautification Improvements to Del Aire

Bring Safe Walking Paths and Beautification Improvements to Del Aire
The Issue
Over the last 13 years, the Del Aire community has greatly changed and grown. Residents have taken pride in improving and beautifying the neighborhood by constructing beautiful homes, maintaining their properties, and investing in landscaping that reflects the strong sense of community and family-oriented nature of the area. Del Aire has long been a neighborhood where neighbors greet each other on morning walks, families take pride in their homes, and children safely play and walk to school. Unfortunately, while residents have continued to improve their neighborhood, the surrounding public infrastructure has remained neglected and unmaintained by County Public Works. Our community has not received the same level of investment and beautification benefits as other neighborhoods within the same supervisorial district that also border the 405 Freeway.
The areas along Tahoe Avenue between 120th Street and Stacy Street, as well as the 120th Street underpass beneath the freeway, continue to be neglected and continue to deteriorate.
The sidewalk along Tahoe Avenue is frequently covered in litter, much of it pushed onto the walkway during street sweeping and never cleaned afterward. What should be a welcoming walking path for residents continues to be unsightly and unpleasant. In addition, the chain-link fence bordering the freeway, despite being relatively new, is regularly damaged by transients gaining access to the freeway embankment area, where it appears individuals may be living. This creates ongoing concerns regarding cleanliness, safety, and quality of life for nearby residents.
The underpass along 120th Street beneath the freeway is another major concern. This important pedestrian route has always been dirty, neglected, and uncomfortable for residents to walk through daily. Many children attending Del Aire Elementary walk along Tahoe Avenue and through the 120th Street underpass every day on their way to and from school. As the number of families and children living in Del Aire has grown over the years, it is increasingly concerning that these children must walk through areas that feel unsafe, neglected, and unmaintained.
Meanwhile, another neighborhood within our same supervisorial district received major beautification improvements along La Cienega Boulevard between 129th Street and 141st Street, including landscaped walking paths, greenery, fitness stations, and other community enhancements. We are simply asking Los Angeles County to provide Del Aire with the same level of care, attention, and investment that other nearby neighborhoods have already received.
This petition requests that Los Angeles County and Supervisor Holly Mitchell begin the process of studying, planning, and implementing:
• A beautified walking path along Tahoe Avenue between 120th Street and Stacy Street
• Improved maintenance and cleaning of sidewalks and surrounding areas
• Enhanced security to freeway border
• Beautification and safety improvements to the 120th Street underpass
By investing in regular maintenance, beautification, and safety improvements, we can restore cleanliness, and security of these important community spaces and ensure Del Aire remains a welcoming place for families for years to come.
Please join us in urging Los Angeles County leaders to take action. Your signature can help bring meaningful improvements to our neighborhood and ensure our families and children have the clean, safe, and welcoming environment they deserve.
