Our community has faced rising energy costs with PG&E's rates continually being higher than not just the national average, but also significantly more expensive compared to other municipal utility companies within the state of California. The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) offers a compelling alternative. Known for its competitive rates and commitment to customer satisfaction, SMUD consistently delivers more affordable and reliable energy services to its customers. By extending the reach of SMUD to include Sutter County, we would provide residents with a choice that can lead to lower utility bills and enhanced service reliability.

Consider the impact. According to the Energy Information Administration, the average retail price of electricity in the U.S. was 10.54 cents per kilowatt-hour in 2019. In California, PG&E's average rates are well above this figure, often reaching as high as 20 cents per kilowatt-hour, placing a heavier economic burden on families in Sutter County.
