I love opossums. They’re my favorite animal by far and my biggest hyper fixation as someone with autism and ADHD! I’ve loved them ever since I saw one on my porch when I was about 8 or 9 years old and later found a little nest of babies outside my kitchen window!

Opossums are very misunderstood creatures, despite being extremely safe and even beneficial to humans! For instance, a single opossum can consume up to 5,000 ticks per season, drastically reducing their numbers. In addition, opossums' natural body temperature is too low to contract rabies- the only instances of them catching the disease has been when their body temperatures were already heightened by another illness.

This petition has the intention of helping dispel some of the stigma around opossums by creating an educational exhibit in the Saint Louis Zoo for these lovely creatures. In doing this, hopefully we will help these wonderful animals gain the love and understanding they deserve.
