The Issue

My beloved pet raccoon, McGiver, was taken from our home by Wildlife Rescue during a search in my son's room. McGiver is not just any raccoon; he is family. I've raised him since he was a mere two weeks old, and now, at six years of age, he's been a constant source of joy and companionship in our lives.

From bottle-feeding him as a baby to watching him grow into the delightful creature he is today, McGiver has always been a major part of our home. He's been vaccinated, neutered, and treated for worms. To us, he is just as domesticated as any cat or dog, and he has never even seen another raccoon. He wouldn't know how to fend for himself in the wild because he's never had to. His diet, consisting of spaghetti and meatballs, marshmallows, and feeder fish from the bathtub, is a testament to his domestic lifestyle.

Wild animals belong in the wild, but McGiver is an exception. Taking him away from the only home he knows is not in his best interest, especially considering he has never had the experience or instincts needed to survive outside. Unlike wild raccoons, he has never scavenged for food or foraged in trash. His environment is carefully controlled and he thrives inside it.

I am pleading for the understanding and compassion of the authorities in Wildlife Rescue to reconsider their decision. McGiver's quality of life is dramatically diminished outside the familiar surroundings of our home. I implore my community and friends to support us in this effort—help us bring McGiver back to where he truly belongs.

Please sign this petition to reunite my family with McGiver and ensure he lives out his days in comfort and familiarity, where he is loved and safe. Your signature could make all the difference in McGiver's future.
