Bring Mooby's Back to Pittsburgh – Turn Our Abandoned Rite Aid into a Pop-Culture Landmark

The Issue

Last month, while watching Dogma in theaters, my partner reminded me that a big part of the film was shot right here in Pittsburgh – especially in the Dormont area, including the Rite Aid at Banksville and McMonigle, which at the time was a Burger King that was transformed into the legendary Mooby’s for the film.

Today, that building sits empty thanks to the crash of Rite Aid. But what if we brought Mooby’s back? And this time for real?

I’m starting a petition to turn that vacant space (on Banksville, across from Kuhn’s – not the new Sheetz location) into a pop-culture landmark. A place where Kevin Smith fans can grab a Cowtipper any day of the week.

To help get this petition some traction, I’m calling on Kevin Smith to help make this a reality – or at least come back and film another flick in our city. I’m calling on Dormont Mayor Jason Walsh, who may not have direct jurisdiction, to champion this with community spirit. I’m calling on Pittsburgh's most trusted and reliable news source, OneBurgh, to help rally support and shine a light on this idea.

And finally, I’m calling on the communities of Banksville, Beechview, Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, and Green Tree and all of Pittsburgh to come together and show just how much we want to see this happen. And if we can’t get Mooby’s, we’ll happily take another Burger King.

By signing this petition, you’re helping turn an empty building into a hub of joy, nostalgia, and cinematic history. Let’s keep the spirit of Dogma alive – right here in Pittsburgh.

Sign and share to show your support. Let’s make the Cowtipper a Pittsburgh staple. Snoochie boochies.
