For 45 years, Michael has been a dedicated coach at Macquarie Ice Rink, teaching, mentoring and inspiring thousands of children and adults. His passion for skating, patience, kindness and unwavering commitment have made him much more than a coach—he has become a valued part of the Macquarie Ice Rink community.

Many of us learned to skate with Michael as children and have since returned years later with our own children to experience the same encouragement, care and exceptional coaching. Few people dedicate nearly half a century to one community, and Michael’s contribution deserves to be recognised and respected.

Unfortunately, Michael has been informed that he will no longer be coaching at Macquarie Ice Rink. This decision has left many families shocked, disappointed and heartbroken. Children who have built trusting relationships with Michael have suddenly lost a coach they admire, while parents have been left wondering why someone who has given so much to the rink is no longer able to continue.

For Michael, this is not simply the loss of a coaching position. It is the loss of the livelihood and small business he has built through decades of dedication, hard work and service to the skating community.

This petition is not about resisting change—it is about recognising the immense value of loyalty, experience and community. Coaches like Michael cannot simply be replaced. His knowledge, reputation, care for his students and decades of experience are invaluable to current and future generations of skaters.
