The Issue

Hello all, my name is Jess.

In November of 2019, I was approved for the adoption of one pistol of a kitten, then named Chalupa. Her name was changed to Juniper Joe, named after my late friend Ginnie Joe, who went with me to pick Juniper up from the St. Joseph Humane Society.

Unfortunately in October of 2022, I suffered from a rare condition called acute Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), which left me partially paralyzed, and having to stay in hospital for nearly 2 months. During this stay, I was evicted from my apartment, as I'm sure most people can understand, you can't make rent from a hospital bed. Within all of this chaos, I had only one thing on my mind, and that was what I needed to do to get my cats, Noel and Juniper, to a safe place while I started completely over, even from learning how to walk again.

My sister ended up recommending a friend of hers who came by to help feed my cats before my apartment had to be vacated, after many, many a discussion and having few other options, I entrusted my two closest confidants, my bff's, my "goirls" to this friend.

Unfortunately in 2023, Noel passed away of acute kidney issues that no one could have foreseen, and no blame was placed on anyone. This person and I grieved together over the loss of Noel. Later in 2023, I would again suffer from another round of acute CES and had to be hospitalized for weeks for both emergency gallbladder removal and a spinal fusion that resulted in increased organ damage and neuropathy. During this time, the same person took Juniper back in. At this point, the living conditions I currently had at home (at the recommendation of the same person) collapsed. From having to live in a home with fleas while relearning how to function as a newly paralyzed and disabled person, it was decided that I would move to Minnesota to be closer to family with the ability to assist, and that once I was settled, including being approved for disability, Juniper would be returned to me one way or another, as when I first flew to MN, my sister and the person helping watch her "weren't able" to bring her to the airport for me to take.

Well, here we are, and after months of no responses from either my sister or the person, now her roommate, I get a message from said person that they have no intention of returning Juniper to me because they're a "better owner".

Yes I am currently getting law enforcement, animal control, etc involved in this mess, but your support would also be incredible to help me bring my Juniper, my last piece of my life both while Ginnie was alive, and my life as I knew it... I'd start showering with all of her pet names here, but I've already said my peace.

Please sign to show your support to bring Juniper home to her heartbroken but no push-over or abandoning owner.
