Bring High School Cricket to Los Angeles
The Issue
Bring Cricket to Los Angeles High Schools
Cricket is growing in Los Angeles, California, and across the United States, but most high school students still don't have the opportunity to play it through their schools.
That should change.
Cricket is coming to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics for the first time since 1900, with the matches being held right here in Pomona. The Los Angeles Knight Riders also now have a professional cricket ground at the Fairplex, where their first MLC game drew around 2,000 fans. They went on to win the 2026 Major League Cricket championship.
There is already a strong youth cricket community in Southern California, with organizations offering programs and leagues for young players. The interest is there — but many students don't have a way to represent their high school.
CIF Los Angeles City Section has previously encouraged schools to look at student interest when considering new athletic programs. So let's start there.
We're asking LAUSD and CIF Los Angeles City Section to explore creating high school cricket teams, starting with a student-interest survey and potentially a small pilot league between interested schools.
This doesn't mean every school needs a cricket field or a full program immediately. Schools could share facilities, partner with local cricket organizations, and start small.
The 2028 Olympics will bring cricket to Los Angeles. Let's give Los Angeles students a chance to play it, too.
If you support bringing high school cricket to Los Angeles, please sign this petition and help show LAUSD and CIF that there is student and community interest.
