Bring Hakeem Curry, AKA ET HAK, Back Home to Newark, New Jersey
The Issue
Hakeem Curry, known and loved by many as ET HAK, is a friend to all in Newark, New Jersey. His compassion and kindness resonate with those who know him personally as well as those who simply know of him, reflecting a community that misses him deeply. Tragically, Hakeem is currently incarcerated in Yazoo, Mississippi, thousands of miles away from his home. This distance poses a barrier to rehabilitation as it limits the personal connections that are vital for reintegration into society. According to the Journal of Criminal Justice, keeping inmates away from their home communities can be detrimental to their mental health and future (Journal of Criminal Justice,2015). This distance separates him from everything he knows and loves, decimating his support system. Moving Hakeem back home not only addresses these issues but also strengthens our community's ties and demonstrates our collective regard for human rights and justice reform. Hakeem deserves justice, and so does Newark. We ask that you aid us in bringing Hakeem Curry home. Please sign this petition to support the return of ET HAK to Newark, New Jersey.
