Bring GeoGuessr back to Hydro
Bring GeoGuessr back to Hydro
The Issue
14/09/26: the day we lost a long-standing tradition that brought unity and diversity to the team.
On that fateful day, IT took away something far more significant than a simple website. They took away GeoGuessr. With one devastating decision, the daily GeoGuessr challenge ritual that had brought colleagues together across Hydrogroup was banished.
Every morning, we gathered. We debated. We analysed pixels. We confidently identified the wrong country. For those precious few minutes, deadlines, emails and technical problems faded into the background as we united behind one common purpose: getting a 5,000-point round and proving we actually knew what a bollard looked like.
Now, the room is different.
There is an emptiness where the daily challenge once stood. Conversations have fallen silent. Morale is hanging by a thread. Colleagues stare blankly at their screens, wondering whether that blurry road in the middle of nowhere was actually Mongolia. The joy, camaraderie and completely necessary arguments over whether a Google car antenna was visible have vanished overnight.
GeoGuessr was more than a game. It was a tradition. It was culture. It was unity.
It brought people together regardless of department, experience or geographical knowledge. It gave us something to look forward to each day and, most importantly, provided an entirely legitimate reason to spend several minutes identifying obscure road signs during working hours.
We therefore call upon IT to reconsider this devastating decision and BRING GEOGUESSR BACK TO HYDRO
Let the daily challenge return.
Let the arguments resume.
Let the 47-point guesses become 5,000-point celebrations.
Restore GeoGuessr. Restore unity. Restore hope.
