Bring Freetown International Airport to Freetown

Bring Freetown International Airport to Freetown
The Issue
Let's bring Freetown International Airport to Freetown.
This will make travelling to Sierra Leone easier and safer.
The only International airport in Sierra Leone is based in Lungi, about 2 - 3 hours journey to the city of Freetown. The current process is tedious; can be unsafe and frightening. Involves a walk through a narrow wooden and shaky bridge to board the boat.
Kids love to come to our beautiful Sierra Leone but some are sea sick and scared of crossing the dark deep waters, likewise some adults (be they citizens, holiday makers, tourists, or investors).
There has been suggestions to move the airport to a location in the outskirts of the city at Mamammah, but unfortunately that project was cancelled.
There are rumours of a plan to build a bridge that connects the airport to the city but these are currently just rumours and once approved could still take years to establish.
Having the airport in Freetown can help with faster turn around of businesses and help with the delivery, storage and distribution of healthcare products and medicines for example vaccines.
A personal experience that impacts the lives of people in Sierra Leone and beyond was when we got engaged with potential suppliers of Hepatitis B vaccines. The process was delayed and eventually cancelled once we reached the discussion of transport from airport to the city. The concern for the suppliers is how we will be able to maintain the temperature of the mass supply of vaccines and how sustainable that will be in future, from Lungi airport to Freetown considering the current challenges.
Areas that surround the outskirts of the city such as Hamilton, Hastings and beyond to include Mamammah, Masiaka etc. can be considered.
Please support and be part of the change; for us and generations to come.
