Bring Due Process in Virginia's Family Court System

The Issue

I am initiating this plea as one painfully impacted by the unfortunate events prevailing in Virginia's Family Court. Many children, just like mine, are being abruptly separated from safe, affectionate homes by Child Protection Services. The current legal framework lacks the sufficient transparency and thorough investigation required, leading to the often harsh and unjustified decisions.

A report from Virginia's Department of Social Services’ Office of Child Protective Services reveals that Virginia saw over 32,600 child protection responses in fiscal year 2020. Yet, a clear, fair examination of these cases remains ambiguous, causing families to crumble and young lives to be disrupted unjustifiably.

This petition, therefore, seeks to draw attention to this dire issue and push for necessary reforms. These reforms should ensure due process in Family Courts, giving reasonable consideration to every case, diligently validating the grounds of removal, and ensuring the child's best interests are the primary concern.

It's time that Virginia enforces better laws where due process is not an optional extra, but a fundamental right. I urge you to stand with me in advocating for the rights of our children and families. Sign this petition today to demand Due Process in Virginia's Family Court System.
