Bring Costco to Waco for the Benefit of College Students and the Community

The Issue

As a resident of Waco, I, along with many in our community, am faced with a limited range of options when it comes to grocery shopping. Waco lacks sufficient choices, leaving college students and other community members with fewer alternatives for affordable, quality groceries. At present, we do not have access to Costco, a store that would offer diverse options for food, clothing, electronics, and home goods at competitive prices. This is not just a personal issue but a community-wide need.

Waco, TX is a growing city with an estimated population of 139,236 in 2019, according to the United States Census Bureau. It is home to Baylor University, which has more than 14,000 undergraduate students. With such a large population of students and citizens, it's unquestionable that the addition of a Costco could serve a significant number of people while improving the overall shopping landscape of our city.

Costco is known for providing an array of quality products at reasonable prices, plowing back its savings to consumers. According to data from Statista, their consumers saved an average of 30% on all Costco products. This could be tremendously beneficial for our college students who are often on a tight budget. Moreover, Costco is also recognized for paying its employees well above the minimum wage, and opening a new Costco store means potential job opportunities improving the local economy.

We believe it's high time that Waco residents have access to the same shopping opportunities found in other metropolitan cities. Therefore, we call on the City Council to engage with Costco and facilitate the necessary processes to establish a new store in our beloved community of Waco, Texas. Please sign this petition and support the opening of a Costco in Waco. Let's give our city and its residents the grocery options we deserve!
