The Issue: Mount Barker Needs More Affordable Pharmacy Choice

Mount Barker is growing rapidly, but access to large-format discount pharmacy services has not kept pace with the needs of the community.

Residents across Mount Barker and the wider Adelaide Hills currently have limited choice when it comes to affordable medicines, prescriptions, vitamins, baby products, personal care items and everyday health essentials.

For many locals, the only way to access the prices and range offered by a major discount chemist is to drive down the hill into Adelaide. This creates extra cost, extra travel time and extra inconvenience for families, pensioners, carers, shift workers and people managing ongoing health needs.

With major housing growth continuing across the Flaxley Road corridor and surrounding estates, demand for local health and retail services will only increase.

The upcoming Newenham Retail Village presents a major opportunity to address this gap. With a supermarket and other retail services planned for the site, Newenham is well placed to become a convenient local hub for everyday essentials.

We are calling on Chemist Warehouse and Burke Urban to work together to bring a Chemist Warehouse tenancy to Newenham Village, giving Mount Barker residents more choice, stronger competition and better access to affordable healthcare products.
