Bring Books A Million Store Back to Our Town

Bring Books A Million Store Back to Our Town
The Issue
I am an avid reader, and previously, Books A Million was the only bookstore in our town. Its closure due to the demolition of its original location came as a severe heartbreak for us, the book-loving town's residents. Our hurt was intensified when they failed to open a new store in town, contrary to what was stated. Not only has this closure disappointed the dedicated customers, but it also cost employees their jobs, who were assured of the security of their work. This unnecessary job loss has compounded the economic strain we are experiencing during these already challenging times.
Supporting local businesses is imperative for the vibrancy and economic health of our community. It's even more crucial for a bookstore like Books A Million, which fosters literacy, education, and a love for reading. According to a report from the American Booksellers Association, local independent bookstores returned 52% of their revenue back into the local economy compared to only 14% for national chains (Civic Economics, "Indie Impact Study Series", 2012). Although Books A Million is a national chain, its presence in our town boosts not only the local economy but also our community's cultural richness.
Therefore, we respectfully request that Books A Million reevaluate their decision and reopen a store in our town. It is not only a question of business but an appeal for the literary culture and for the livelihoods of the people who are dependent on it. We urge you to sign this petition to bring Books A Million back to our town.
