Three years ago, I moved from the bustling New York City Metropolitan area to Victoria, Texas. Back in New Jersey, within a 10-mile radius of my home, I had access to four Barnes & Noble stores, each just a short drive away. In fact, within a 30-minute drive, I could choose from ten different locations. Here in Victoria, the nearest Barnes & Noble is 2 1/2 hours away. I deeply miss the experience of browsing books, grabbing a coffee, and indulging in a community space dedicated to learning and relaxation.

This isn't just about me. Our community thrives with a major university, a community college, and a vibrant youth population always on the hunt for new ideas and knowledge. We deserve the cultural and educational enrichment that a Barnes & Noble store can bring. Such a store would not only serve as a haven for book lovers but also as a community hub where people can attend book readings, engage in discussions, and simply enjoy a space dedicated to the love of literature and learning.

Currently, Victoria County and its surrounding areas lack a major bookstore. Residents often have to drive considerable distances just to find a quality selection of books. The establishment of a Barnes & Noble in Victoria would fill this gap and support the intellectual and recreational needs of our growing population.

But we're not just advocating for ourselves. With the establishment of a Barnes & Noble, we would create more jobs, provide local authors a platform, and offer students and academics access to significant resources. Additionally, the store would act as a critical retail and leisure anchor, drawing in visitors and other businesses and boosting our local economy.
