While on the road traveling with my parents, we stopped at our ever trustworthy, favorite restaurant Cracker Barrel. There are items on the menu that not only are delicious, but also considered a staple of the menu. I have many memories growing up of sharing Uncle Hershel’s breakfast with my sister and father. When my brother came along 11 years after me, it was wonderful to see the tradition pass to him sharing it with my dad. On this occasion that we stopped at Cracker Barrel, my father ordered the Uncle Hershel’s breakfast without cracking the menu. The waitress responded with “we no longer have that on the menu.” It’s like I saw him lose a best friend. Since then, he hasn’t returned to the restaurant of my childhood. We even poured a cold one out for Uncle Hershel that night.

According to Cracker Barrel’s own website, “he helped shape not only Cracker Barrel’s image but also its values.” (The Soul of Cracker Barrel) Knowing this, I am truly concerned for even the existence of this old country store without said breakfast item. What is a business without its image and values intact?

Now is the time to act before the memory of the Uncle Hershel’s breakfast is lost. Will you join me in petitioning to bring it back?
