Bring Back the Reno Trolley

The Issue

Reno, NV is a beautiful city in the High Eastern Sierra foothills, on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. For many great reasons, Reno has recently had a surge in population growth with many more people expected to flock to the city in the coming years.

Growth for the city is a fantastic problem to have! But after witnessing numerous American cities handle similar influx of population poorly (Denver, Austin, San Diego, etc), we are petitioning to get ahead of the problem with reasonable measures to reduce congestion and alleviate the social problems created by sprawl. First and foremost we would like to reinstate the Reno Trolley Service, which served Reno in the late 1800s through the early 1900s (Map of the original Reno Trolley Route)

We believe that this is a growth/tourist opportunity as well as an investment. Similar trolley systems in cities like San Francisco, Memphis, and Kansas City, have brought visitors to their cities who would have otherwise never visited.

Fortunately for Reno, many of the original streets such as Plumas and Wells can easily support the reinstatement of the Trolley system as they have retained the space in the form of a turning lane for automobiles. This would make the construction much easier and cheaper.

Please sign this petition if you HATE TRAFFIC, would like to see the trolleys back in Reno, or if you are just interested in safer more walkable cities!
