Bring back the Polly Benches in Liverpool One

Bring back the Polly Benches in Liverpool One
The Issue
The Polly Benches in Liverpool One, Chavasse Park, are more than just a place for people to sit; they form a part of our collective culture and identity, sharing numerous stories, memories and moments of peace. As a long-standing resident, the absence of these benches aches our hearts as we recall how they used to be a lovely place for us to pause and find relaxation amidst our busy lives. Over the years, they have gained a deep-rooted connection amongst us, the people of Liverpool.
Benches are an essential street furniture piece that, first and foremost, provides a place to rest. They are conveniently placed in strategic locations to maximise pedestrian comfort. They offer an opportunity for pedestrians to slow down for a minute, enjoy their surroundings, and recharge before continuing their journeys.
We earnestly ask to return these pieces of local history to their original spot. Keeping these benches away interferes with the unique heritage of our lovely town. As a community, we fear that we may lose more than benches; we may lose precious links to our shared past.
Not only does these benches mean a lot to the young generation of Liverpool as this area is a great meet up spot, but also I’ve noticed the elderly like to sit on these benches to take a rest. I would always see mothers and dads with their children on these benches too. Benches are for everyone. It’s a big need in the community.
Personally, when I’m feeling quite anxious in town, I will head to the Polly benches to sit down for a few minutes to chill out, before carrying on with my day. But now if I’m ever feeling anxious there is no where to sit, as our beloved Polly benches have been removed. The closest seating area in Chavase is normally busy with people, this would make me feel worse. The benches were placed on the nature trail, so when i used to sit here, I would do some bird watching listen to some music and relax my mind, body and soul.
This request is by no means trivial; reconnecting to our roots has profound psychological benefits. It has been shown that places linked with positive memories can significantly contribute to people's well-being and mental health. Considering the current global stressors, returning the Polly Benches might provide a much-needed healing and comforting space for many.
Reinstating the Polly Benches could not only help restore our community spirit, but it is also a step towards acknowledging and preserving the local history and identity of Liverpool One. Let us work together to enrich our lives by bringing back the Polly benches to Liverpool One.
Kindly add your voice to this petition and encourage others to do so. Let's bring back our beloved Benches!
