Coaches vs. Cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness Alternate Uniform in Original School Colors - Vintage Black & Pink with Brownish Pants & alternate helmets

In honor of the many victims and survivors of the many forms of cancer, including our late legendary Head Football Coach Joe Paterno, we the alumni and many former student athletes of Penn State University, upholding the great traditions of the University and it's athletics programs, would like to honor the teams of the past by wearing traditional historically based uniforms that would occasionally be worn in games as alternate uniforms by the university's athletic teams and particularly by the Football team. These would be the first alternate uniforms worn by the Penn State Football team, and would be vintage Penn State Football Uniforms made toward the original specifications of the first uniforms worn by the very first Penn State Football team. According to university historical records, The University's first uniform colors worn by it's first football team in 1887 were actually Pink and Black, which after wear and washing faded to the colors of Navy Blue and White. The Blue and White would remain the school's colors but the original Pink and Black uniforms have long been forgotten and we would like to remember the students who voted to make the school colors Pink and Black and all those who donned the original school colors in 1887 during hysterically pink cancer fundraising events.  http://www.gopsusports.com/trads/psu-trads.html

We understand the PSU uniforms are considered sacred, but it's time get over the self-aggrandizing over the current uniforms as they ARE NOT anywhere near the original Penn State Uniform. In fact the uniforms at Penn State before the 1940's were quite different from the uniforms today, including non-white pants (the White came from the original Pink and the pants weren't Pink either) as shown above. So let's not pretend that the uniforms have been the same since 1887, and if you want to talk about tradition, let's have a unique vintage uniform similar to the uniform to the 1912 National Championship football team, the 1887, and the 1973 Championship squads.

The uniforms represent Penn State values including teamwork, tradition, honor, hard work, dedication, and excellence and would like to honor the players, alumni, fans, and teams that came before we Nittany Lions by wearing the original school colors of Pink (French Fuchsia Pink or Red) and Black uniforms. We understand that Penn State more than any other school honors it's history and for those reasons does not wear names on the back of the uniforms and has not changed the uniforms for many years. However, most College Football teams as well as most NFL teams wear alternate jerseys including the throwback uniforms worn to represent the original uniforms worn by NFL teams during early NFL and AFL years. Many teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers have worn pretty basic uniforms that are favorites among players, fans, and the organization and have sold thousands of throwback and alternate jerseys resulting in millions of dollars of additional revenue for the schools and teams. Future players and recruits would enjoy occasionally wearing the alternate vintage jerseys based on tradition, and often wooed away from attending Penn State by schools that wear alternative and often flashy uniforms.

Please add an alternate uniform in the tradition of Penn State Football, resembling those worn by Penn State's first football teams in the original French Fuschia Pink & Black Colors. I believe the first Alternate Jersey's should look like the 2015 San Francisco 49ers throwback uniforms with Red or Fuchsia numbers on an all black jersey and pants with either the 1960's or 1970's version of the helmet with the numbers on on the sides or an alternate helmet of French Fuschia/Red with Black Stripe, or a half and half current with numbers and half original color. The players and fans would enjoy seeing and wearing an alternate vintage Penn State uniform with additional pride similar to those players and alumni who came before us and started our great athletics history. According to my historical research, (I had a second major in Sports History at Penn State), the original pants were actually brown in color, resembling those of other teams of that era. In fact the pants were probably, very similar to the color worn by the Green Bay Packers' Throwback Jersey's of 2015. In addition to the football team, the University's other teams could & should also wear these jerseys as I know basketball has already worn pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness games and Coaches for Cancer special game events. These Pink & Black jerseys could also be worn for these cancer fundraising events for all sports including football.

During these Vintage Pink & Black events, the Nittany Lion mascot should also be decked in Pink (& Black) as a play on the Pink (Panther) Lion employed by the Blue Band, cheer teams, and the Nittany Lion. I've already seen "The Pink Panther" performed by the Blue Band and Nittany Lion at Penn State events as part of entertainment.

Please sign the petition in favor of having Penn State Football and Penn State Athletics wear the original Pink & Black and honor the original school colors and first sports teams, athletes, fans, and alumni that led the way to the greatness that now is Penn State Athletics. This petition will be sent directly to Head Football Coach James Franklin, Athletic Director, Sandy Barbour and Penn State Athletics by Alumni and former players.

Also, see the San Francisco 49ers vintage uniform team photos below for an idea of what the Vintage Uniforms may resemble (to be worn with or without stripes on sleeves): There is too much money being left on the table not to produce a vintage Penn State Football uniform in memory of those jerseys worn before. Imagine selling replica vintage Pink & Black uniforms for all major sports teams at Penn State. As well as the Pink & Black Out.
