The issue

Every year, I've eagerly anticipated the Pride Parade and Picnic in the Park in Adelaide. It has always been a highlight, bringing together our community in celebration, joy, and unity. But over recent years, changes intended to create something "new and improved" have taken away the magic that made these events truly special. The soul of these celebrations—the original DJs, the beloved park setting, and the familiar style—has been replaced, and with it, the vibrant turnouts we used to see.

In a city like Adelaide, where the LGBTQ+ community is tightly knit, it's essential to remember that traditions matter. For us, the authenticity of Pride comes from a shared history and experience. The only time these events saw massive turnouts was when the original crew was at the helm. The shift to making these festivals more "family-friendly" by changing DJs and moving locations has alienated attendees rather than encouraged inclusivity.

Why fix what isn’t broken? The essence of Pride is embracing who we are—roots and all. And while adaptations can be valuable, they shouldn’t come at the expense of losing the spirit of these cherished gatherings. Regardless of the changes, many families were still happy to bring their children along to enjoy the celebration.

We urge the event organizers to bring back the original DJs, return to the original park location, and restore the original style. Our community flourishes when we celebrate our authenticity, and these events should reflect that. By returning to what worked so beautifully before, we can breathe life back into Adelaide's Pride events and what they symbolise for all of us.

Join me in calling for a return to the roots of our cherished Pride celebrations. Let's bring back the heart and soul of these events. Sign this petition and help us reach the organizers with our collective voice.
