Over 30 years of Dallas Stars hockey in Dallas. Over 30 years of hockey traditions fans know, love and expect when experiencing a Stars game. Until mid-December 2024 when one of the longest-standing traditions ended quietly and without explanation. For as long as about anyone can remember, a certain song played whenever the opposing team scored a goal. In the decades since its first appearance, it’s been labeled “Darkness.” It’s a depressing little rift that alerted Stars fans watching on TV, watching from their seats, or walking around the arena, that the other team scored a goal. It’s been in Dallas about as long as the team has. Stars fans know this song and expect this song. Yet it suddenly vanished at some point in December 2024 without any reason. It’s a weird tradition that we want back. The Texas Rangers baseball club experimented last season with eliminating decades-long traditional songs and were met with extensive backlash from fans and caused the team to bring back their traditional songs that fans know and love.
