For the past few years in The Harvey School, students were allowed to wear sweatpants year round. However, in the school year of 2022-2023 students were prohibited from wearing sweatpants during the academic day. The dress code states that “Students may wear khaki, corduroy, twill, canvas, linen, and denim pants. Sweatpants and jogging pants are not permitted.” Sweatpants are designed for comfort and to learn, students prefer to be comfortable. Not being comfortable in the classroom can lead to stress and can cause the student to not pay as much attention. The Harvey School students day starts off at 8:10 and ends at 3:15. (if you don’t count the one and a half after school activity) We wear out clothes for at least 7+ hours a day and it’s hard to wear clothes that aren’t fit to being comfortable. That’s why I started this petition, in hopes that the faculty would listen to our voices and maybe change the dress code. The dress code can even have rules like no stains or not to baggy. We just want our suggestion to be voiced.
