The Issue

The people of Allegheny County have always had a special place in their hearts for Rexy, the beloved T-Rex statue, which has been a beloved fixture at Pittsburgh International Airport. As someone who has grown up around this iconic symbol, I know firsthand the joy and excitement it brings to travelers and residents alike. It's more than just a dinosaur; it's a cherished part of our community's identity.

With the construction of the new landside terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport, many were hopeful that Rexy would find a fresh home in the new, modern setting. However, disappointingly, as of now, Rexy has not been included in the plans for the new terminal. This omission leaves the gleaming new building feeling incomplete, almost as if a part of our collective memory and experience has been overlooked.

Rexy's presence in the new terminal would be an exciting attraction for visitors and travelers. It would maintain a connection to the past, bridging the new with the familiar, offering a warm and whimsical welcome to everyone passing through the terminal. The T-Rex is not only a favorite among children but also elicits nostalgia from adults who remember it from their own childhoods. Keeping Rexy at the airport would preserve a piece of history and continue a tradition that has captured the imaginations of many generations.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority has the power to make this happen, ensuring that this small but significant piece of our local culture and history continues to delight. We urge the Airport Authority to reconsider their decision and incorporate Rexy into the new terminal design where it can watch over and continue to bring smiles to everyone.

Join us in persuading the Allegheny County Airport Authority to bring Rexy, the T-Rex, to its rightful place in the new airport. Sign this petition to keep a treasured part of Allegheny County's culture alive!
