Bring Back Pontiac, A Legacy Worth Reviving!

Bring Back Pontiac, A Legacy Worth Reviving!
The Issue
Let's face it: Pontiac was a car that sparked passion and emotion.
Here’s the commercial that inspired this petition: Pontiac Commercial
GM recently renewed the Pontiac trademark — A sign that this legendary brand still has value.
GM Has Shown They Can Revive Brands and Models
- They Brought back Hummer (Sub rand under GMC.) Before Pontiac was phased out they brought back the Malibu in 1997, Camaro 2009, Blazer 2019, the Buick Regal for 2011.
- Developed BrightDrop (an EV brand now merged with Chevrolet).
- If they can do that, they can bring back Pontiac.
Other Brands Are Successfully Reviving Icons
- Toyota — Supra
- Ford — Bronco
- Jeep — Wagoneer
- Dodge — V8
- Volkswagen — Iconic Bus
- Honda — Prelude (coming soon)
- Acura — Integra
Almost No American Manufacturer Makes Sedans or Roadsters
- Ford: None
- Chrysler: Only Charger and 300 remain; 200 discontinued
- GM: Only Cadillac remains; Malibu is being phased out; Corvette is a niche car
- Tesla, Lucid, VinFast: Growing rapidly
- Cupra: Planning to enter the U.S. market by 2030 (potential competition)
- Foreign brands have also discontinued sedans and fun cars in the past few years. While alternatives exist, most brands cater to specific clientele, leaving a gap Pontiac could fill.
Discontinued offerings from competitors
- Acura — TLX
- Audi — A4, TT
- BMW — 8 Series
- Chevrolet — Camaro, Malibu (Cruze 2019, Impala 2020)
- Chrysler — 300
- Infiniti — Q50
- Lexus — IS, RC
- Mazda — 6, RX-8
- Mitsubishi — Mirage
- Nissan — Altima discontinued; Maxima gone
- Porsche — Boxster, Cayman
- Subaru — Legacy
- Volvo — S90
- Volkswagen — Passat
Why Pontiac Would Succeed Today - GM’s Streamlined Brand Portfolio: Fewer brands (Opel, Holden, Vauxhall sold) = more focus and resources.
- Consumer Demand: Fans remain emotionally attached and disappointed by Pontiac’s discontinuation.
- Market Opportunity: Many manufacturers are reducing sedans and roadsters — Pontiac could serve performance and style enthusiasts.
- Existing Platforms: GM can utilize current platforms and powertrains, lowering development costs and accelerating production.
Additional
Reasons It Makes Sense
- Tesla is developing a roadster.
- Cupra, a European manufacturer, plans to enter the U.S. market.
- German cars, while plentiful, are expensive to maintain.
- Chinese EVs are rapidly improving and may enter the U.S., increasing competition.
Call to Action- Let’s work together and bring Pontiac back. They brought back Hummer — now it’s time for Pontiac to reclaim its place on the road.
