Bring back paper Math

Bring back paper Math
The Issue
Many students in Paulding County, GA, including myself, find learning math through the online program ILC significantly more challenging than traditional methods. The ease and relation that comes with working out problems on paper, rather than trying to understand abstract concepts through a computer screen. This online approach strips away the tactile experience and often results in a disconnect.
ILC was introduced to make learning more accessible, but for many students, it has had the opposite effect. Statistics from educational research show that different modes of learning work for different people, with tactile and visual learning being crucial for subjects like math. According to a 2018 study published by the American Educational Research Association, students who engage in hands-on problem-solving show improved retention and understanding of mathematical concepts.
More traditional teaching methods, paired with technology as a supplementary tool, not a substitute, have proven more effective. Returning to these strategies can better cater to varied learning styles and ensure no student is left disadvantaged just because they learn differently.
I urge the Paulding County School Board to reconsider the use of the ILC math program in favor of a more inclusive and flexible approach. Seek input from educators, parents, and students to find a balanced solution that embraces digital tools without letting them replace proven methods of teaching.
Stand with me to advocate for educational methods that address the diverse needs of all students. Sign this petition to call for a review and end the mandatory use of ILC in our schools for a fairer, more effective math education in Paulding County.
