The Issue

Many parents in our community are struggling to support our children’s education due to the heavy reliance on digital classroom systems.

Grades are posted, but the work behind them is often inaccessible. Without seeing corrections or feedback, it’s difficult to understand how our children are performing or how to help them improve. For some parents, checking grades online isn't even accessible.

At the same time, errors such as assignments being marked “missing” despite being completed are creating unnecessary stress and confusion for both students and families.

In my own experience, this shift has made a noticeable difference. My son was a straight-A student prior to the transition to primarily digital work, and I have found it increasingly difficult to understand and support his progress under the current system.

This is not an isolated concern.

Research and international data are increasingly showing that heavy reliance on digital learning may be negatively impacting students.

  • Lower reading comprehension has been observed when students read on screens compared to paper
  • Increased screen use is linked to reduced focus, more distractions, and shorter attention spans
  • Studies suggest weaker memory retention when learning digitally versus physically writing or reading
  • Parents have less visibility into assignments and grading, making it harder to support their children
  • Overreliance on digital tools can reduce meaningful teacher-student interaction
  • Countries like Sweden are already shifting back toward paper-based learning after declines in student performance

This is not about eliminating technology altogether. It's about correcting a system that is not working as intended. Digital tools have a place in education. However, the current level of reliance has created a system where visibility, accountability, and effective learning are being compromised.

We are asking for balance & respectfully request:

  • Increased use of paper-based assignments and materials + Hands-on Learning
  • Clear, visible grading (corrections, feedback, point breakdowns)
  • Parent access to completed assignments
  • Improved accuracy and accountability in assignment tracking

Parents should not feel disconnected from their  child’s education.

The goal is simple: a balanced system that allows students to learn effectively and parents to meaningfully support them.

Please sign and share. The future of our children starts with what we do today.

Thank you for your time.
