Panther Creek High School has a program called SMART Lunch, which is being taken away. During this time, students could get help from teachers, have club meetings, work on homework, and a lot more. Lunch was divided into two halves and students could choose how to spend their lunch time. This set up gave students more freedom at school, where the schedule and rules are already quite rigid. It also taught students how to manage their time and prioritize things that are important to them. Panther Creek recently took away SMART Lunch. They say students weren’t using it how they were supposed to and have been abusing their privilege. They also say they want to bring it back if the students prove that they can use it correctly. In the time that it takes to bring SMART Lunch back on the school’s schedule, many students could fall behind. Clubs will be unable to easily meet. They will have to meet after school, which many students can’t do due to the bus schedule. Students also won’t be able to have extra time with their teachers, which is how many people do well in their classes. We need to tell the administrators how important SMART Lunch is to us and how we need to bring it back now.
