For the past three years, our school community has gone without a school canteen. What may seem like a small issue to some has become an ongoing challenge for many families.

As parents, we juggle work, school drop-offs, appointments, after-school activities, and the countless demands of everyday life. Lunch orders are not simply a convenience. For many families, they are a genuine lifeline on the days when time, energy, or unexpected circumstances make preparing lunches difficult.

The lack of any school canteen has left parents without a backup option and placed unnecessary pressure on busy families. It particularly impacts working parents, single-parent households, carers, and families managing already stretched schedules. Even having access to lunch orders one or two days a week would make a meaningful difference to many within our community.

Beyond supporting parents, a school canteen or organised lunch service also benefits students by providing reliable access to balanced meal options and helping foster healthy eating habits in a positive school environment.

After three years without a canteen, we believe it is time for action. Whether through reopening a school canteen, partnering with local businesses, introducing food trucks, or arranging an external lunch order provider, we ask the school to work towards a practical solution for families.
