Bring Back Our Choice in Vehicles - The Problem Isn't Solved!

The Issue

In many states, all new cars sold will be zero emissions by 2035. Most zero emissions cars are electric. The cars are more expensive, cause more damage to other cars in accidents due to increased weight and dangerous lithium batteries, and cause more electricity to be needed. More electricity means more fossil fuels in power plants, which undoes the effects of reduced car emissions.

We're also losing our choices! It's our decision what we drive and how we choose to effect the environment. We need our freedom to choose! Even if you support electric vehicles, don't let uneducated law makers take away your choices. They're already trying to, don't give them this victory! Fight back for your options, who knows what they could take away next!

Vehicle manufacturers are using twisted information to convince drivers to buy electric vehicles, but they’re creating more problems with pollution and adding extra dangers to driving. Electric vehicle batteries contain lithium, an alkaloid metal. According to the International Fire Service Training Association’s “Fire and Emergency Services Orientation and Terminology” metals are a Class D fire.   There is no specific way to extinguish a Class D fire, and electric vehicle crashes involving the batteries require a hazardous materials team to be brought in. Water is also not effective in fighting these fires, so there’s little that regular firefighters can do to stop the burning of electric batteries.

As a college student studying to be a firefighter, I've done extensive research on the effects of EVs in vehicle accidents to see how it will effect me in my career, as well as the environmental effects for a speech.

Did you know that over 60% of our electricity comes from fossil fuels? That's right, the U.S. Energy Information Administration itself has declared it. What does that have to do with EVs? Well, the main selling point of EVs is that they don't emit fossil fuel smog from their exhausts because they don't run on them. But, if most of the electricity used to power the cars comes from fossil fuels, isn't that a bit contradictory?
