In 2022, Hill’s Pet Nutrition updated the formula for their line of prescription diets. While some cats have had no issues with these formula changes, other cats have experienced vomiting after eating the new food or have refused to eat it entirely. As diet is one of the key ways to manage a diagnosis of kidney disease, these formula changes have a huge impact in the lives of cats with this health problem.

I am creating this petition because my family’s cat, Charlie, was managing his kidney disease through the use of Hill’s Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Dry Cat Food until they changed the formula. Since the formula change, he vomits after eating the dry food. This has caused us to have to switch almost entirely to wet food. Without having any hard food to scrape plaque off his teeth, he could more easily develop feline dental disease.

This petition requests that Hill’s Pet Nutrition offers two versions of Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Dry Cat Food – the new version which contains an “enhanced appetite trigger” and the original version which was available prior to the change in 2022. Additionally, we request that the labeling be clear between these two options.

Specifically, we are requesting that Hill’s Pet Nutrition brings back:

• Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Ocean Fish Dry Cat Food with ORIGINAL FORMULA
• Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Chicken Dry Cat Food with ORIGINAL FORMULA

As well as continuing to offer:

• Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Ocean Fish Dry Cat Food with enhanced appetite trigger
• Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Chicken Dry Cat Food with enhanced appetite trigger
