The Issue

Mountain Dew Real Sugar (formerly Throwback) is gone from the shelves again. Last time it was a supply issue. Now, all signs point to it being discontinued. This would mark the end of my Dew consumption. While some may have preferred the taste, for others like myself, Real Sugar sodas give me a choice as I try to cut high fructose corn syrup from my diet. As the price of imported Mexican Coke has gone up, MDRS was my go-to most days. If it's gone for good, it'll be a sad day for me and many more. This isn't only a taste preference issue, it's a health issue. Please, PepsiCo, reconsider and... Bring Back Mountain Dew Real Sugar!

(Oh, and Arizona Tea, you need to put the real sugar back in the Sweet Tea while you're at it.)

Update 2025: The will they/won't they story around Coca-Cola and cane sugar has brought a lot of attention to the debate over the health benefits of sugar over HFCS. I want to make it clear that I'm not a scientist or nutritionist, so I'm less committed to the health side of this debate these days. The fact is there's still enough demand for Mexican Coke to get imported, which means there should be enough interested customers to justify a real sugar Dew option. The only thing we have to be prepared for is the economics. America got behind the corn growers many years ago by making sugar more expensive to import, which impacts the bottom line. I usually hold out for sales that get the price down to under 50¢ a can, but a real sugar version may be more expensive if it does come back. Although, there's still a Pepsi Real Sugar, so something doesn't add up...
