Last night as I left from a 10pm closing shift at the mall, I saw firetrucks and police at the intersection of Neil and Convenience Center Rd. As I rode my razor scooter to the bus stop at Neil and Center Dr I peered over to the commotion, wondering what had happened. I felt a little uneasy, knowing that this area could get dicey at night.

Last night I was lucky, the other 24 year old woman with her kick scooter out at 10pm on Neil was not. She was hit by a car. She died from her injuries.

I’m not sure if that girl was going to or from the mall, but I do know that crossing Neil, especially at night, is not safe. Whether it’s the risk of a collision or the risk of being kidnapped or shot, Market Place Mall’s greed will put myself and other patrons and employees at risk. Moreover, the crossing at Neil and Center lacks pedestrian infrastructure. The walking sign button on the south side crossing SW is broken and there isn’t a crossing button at all on the north side towards the 1/100S Yellow stop. This is completely unacceptable and dangerous.

Market Place Mall’s parking lots are in terrible condition in areas the busses do not pass. They will lose customers to this, and people will get hurt. Please sign this petition and let Market Place know that their decision has already affected real people and will continue to place a multitude of people at risk. Sign this petition to tell them that there needs to be a change.
