Bring back Machinima
The Issue
Remembering Machinima?
- Machinima, Inc. or Machinima was an American multiplatform online entertainment network owned by WarnerMedia. The company was founded in January 2000 by Hugh Hancock and was headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
- It originated as a hub for its namesake, machinima, which uses and manipulates video-game technology to create animation, as well as featuring articles on machinima and content about film and technology. The website initially helped to bring attention to machinima as an art form and to encourage productions based on game engines other than those of id Software's first-person shooter computer game series Quake. Over time, the website's focus shifted to general entertainment programming centered around video game culture, comic books and fandom.
- In 2016, the company was acquired by Warner Bros. Digital Networks. In turn, Warner Media was acquired by AT&T in 2018. That December, the company would be re-organized into Otter Media and eventually subsumed by its multi-channel network Fullscreen. In January 2019, Machinima abruptly discontinued their YouTube channels, with their videos set to private. A month later in February of the same year, Machinima officially ceased operations.
The Impact & Legacy: Gamers and Machinima fans were so disappointing that they want to bring back Machinima. People, gamers and Machinima fans also want IGN reacquire the dead multiplatform online entertainment network as a video gaming and entertainment media multiplatform online network hybrid.
- Machinima Rewind: Teenagers (13-19 year olds) and young adults (20-34 year olds), as well as gamers and Machinima fans want to bring back videos from respective Machinima YouTube channels that were originally set to private in January 2019 but now they are back in action, which is called Machinima Rewind, another YouTube channel dedicated to past videos of Machinima videos from respective Machinima YouTube channels.
The New Logo: The newly revived Machinima will have a new logo with an updated symbol similar to the 2006-2018 logo which featured a stylized "M" within a black square or circle, often with the red accents, but the only difference is that a new logo has a more extreme spiky stylized "M" logo to it.
The new Machinima website helped to bring attention to not only machinima as an art form and to encourage productions based on game engines but also relied on general entertainment programming centered around video game culture, comic books and fandom, as well as the addition to game reviews on game consoles like PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), as well as mobile games (iOS and Android).
- In addition, it will use a variety of social networking services including Facebook and X as distribution platforms for its productions as well as frequently posted content on various social networks core to the concept of sharing and generating hits for Machinima videos.
The new Machinima is coming soon both the web and mobile as well as digital download for game consoles so they are so happy to bring Machinima back, it will be a must have for new fans and older Machinima fans.
Gamers and Machinima fans, particularly older Machinima fans, sign this petition to bring back Machinima as a video gaming and entertainment media multiplatform online network hybrid so IGN can bring back Machinima instead of Warner Bros. #BringBackMachinima
