Kline Commons is open during the day but most students do not have time to grab breakfast. However, Down the Road Café is open until midnight. This means students are able to grab food even if they did not have time during the day. 

Bard functions on a system of meal swipes (as many colleges do). They used to provide a late night swipe which was separate from the day swipes so students could grab enough food for the day. However, this swipe has now been merged with the dinner swipe. The issue with this is that many students struggle with finding enough to eat during the day. As previously stated, students often have rigorous schedules that do not allow them to get lunch and breakfast. However, beyond eating lunch and breakfast from one of Bard’s dining halls, many students do not have the money that allows them to acquire food to fill in their meals from a grocery store if they do not make it. Additionally, Down the Road Café’s portions are smaller than Kline and do not always account for one meal (even if it is one swipe).

By reinstating the late night swipe it would mean that students are able to eat more than twice on the weekends, have flexibility to eat three meals a day when they need during the week, and get any food necessary without leaving campus.
