Bring back Itemized Tax Deduction for work expenses for Essential Workers and Tradesmen,

Bring back Itemized Tax Deduction for work expenses for Essential Workers and Tradesmen,

The Issue

Dear Concerned Citizens,

We, the undersigned, call upon the government to change the tax law and allow essential workers to once again write off travel expenses.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial role that essential workers play in our society. These workers, including healthcare professionals, nuclear powerhouse/utility workers, truck drivers, construction workers of all crafts, and many others, have put their health and safety on the line to ensure that our communities continue to function during these challenging times.

Despite their vital contributions, essential workers often face financial burdens that others do not. Many of these workers are required to travel for work, incurring expenses for transportation, parking, hotel rooms, safety related equipment, and other related costs. Under current tax law, these expenses are no longer deductible unless you are a 1099 employee, leaving essential workers to bear the burden of these costs. These uncovered expenses are helping to cause the deficit in workers that keep our nation moving in the right direction.

We believe that this is unjust and that workers deserve to be compensated and supported for their contributions. That is why we are calling for a change in the tax law to allow essential workers to write off their travel expenses. This will provide them with much-needed financial relief, and help recruit new workers to fill the current void.

We, the undersigned, call upon the government to act now to make this change and to show its support for essential workers.

Sincerely,
The hard working men and women of this great Country.
