Bring Back Hawaiian Bread for Communion!

The Issue

Growing up at Saint Andrew's United Methodist Church in Henrico, VA, Sundays had a special sweetness to them. As a child, I had the cherished privilege of helping clean up after communion. The best reward? A taste of the sweet fluffy Hawaiian bread used in holy communion. It was a delightful and fulfilling part of our church service, enhancing the spiritual experience for many.

Recently, however, the church decided to switch to a different type of bread. This new bread is dry, crumbly, and, unfortunately, a bit stale. The change has affected not just the physical experience of communion but has altered the emotional and spiritual connection we all felt during this time of fellowship.

The buttery, soft, sweet Hawaiian bread was more than just a bread choice—it symbolized warmth, community, and love. It encouraged both young and old to look forward to communion, making our services even more heartfelt and memorable.

But now, this change has left many of us feeling a void. We understand that decisions like these are often made with the best intentions but believe there are better options that honor both tradition and community preferences. Therefore, we respectfully request that Saint Andrew's UMC brings back the beloved sweet Hawaiian bread for communion, celebrating the tastes and traditions that define our church family.

Please help us restore the joy and spirit of communion by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure that our church continues to be a place where traditions are honored, and everyone feels at home. Thank you for your support.
