The Issue

Families of Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village (STPCV) deserve safe, vibrant, and well-supervised playgrounds. In recent years, the loss of permanent, experienced recreation staff has left gaps in safety, programming, and community connection—especially for younger children and working parents who rely on these spaces every day.

We are calling on management to:

1. Restore permanent, well-trained recreation staff.

Dedicated, full-time staff build relationships, ensure consistent supervision, and create enriching activities that make our playgrounds safer and more welcoming.

2. Re-Establish a Parent Engagement Committee, which had been in place for a decade.

Parents should have a seat at the table. A formal committee with community laisons will allow for ongoing feedback, collaboration, and transparency around decisions that affect our children of all ages, including teens.

3. Hold regular, scheduled meetings with management and the aforementioned Committee/Liaisons.

Monthly meetings will ensure accountability, open communication, and timely problem-solving—before small issues become big ones. We need input to shape the community in which we live.

This is about more than play—it’s about safety, community, and trust. Our families invest in this neighborhood and deserve a meaningful partnership in shaping it.

Sign this petition to bring back: 1) the much needed and sorely missed trained recreation staff; and 2) the voice our community needs with management.
