Think back to your Elementary School days, what do you remember?  I know for myself, one of my favorite memories were FIELD DAY!  The one and only day at school where being a kid was celebrated and encouraged.  From the 50-yard dash, water balloon toss to class tug of war, it was the best!  Having your parents, grandparents, classmates and teachers all rooting you on was so uplifting.

Northampton Area School District is only allowing the 5th graders to participate in an elementary school wide field day this year.  

How is this fair to those 4th graders who haven't been able to participate in a field day since 1st grade due to COVID, or the 3rd graders who probably don't even remember what field day is.  Meanwhile, K thru 2nd have NEVER been able to experience a field day.

All of our children have been through the ringer these last three years.  WHY are we punishing them and taking away one of the best days of the year?!  Can we put the children first for once?  Think of their mental health.  Think of the teachers, who for one day, can act silly with their "kids".

We are not asking to bring back a proper full day Field Day, we will take the two hour mini version.

I have asked multiple parents and thus far, Northampton SD is the ONLY one not having it for all grades and all schools.

I encourage you to sign this petition whether this affects your child directly or not.  For me, it does not, but it fires me up that Northampton SD is taking away Field Day for most grades.  Sign it if you loved Field Day as a child, sign it for your parents who loved and volunteered at these events.  Sign it for those teachers who are afraid to speak up in fear of being reprimanded.  Sign it for the love of good, fun competition.  Sign it FOR THE KIDS.
