The Issue

Father Michael Goetz Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario, has long held a cherished tradition known as Civvies Day. This event allowed students to express their individuality and creativity by wearing casual attire instead of the standard school uniform. Unfortunately, this beloved tradition has been discontinued, leaving students without this valuable opportunity for self-expression and comfort.

Civvies Day contributes positively to the school environment in several ways. It provides a break from the monotony of daily uniforms, allowing students to showcase their personal style and build a sense of community through shared yet diverse fashion choices. Additionally, it gives students something to look forward to and can boost morale and student engagement.

Apart from the reintroduction of Civvies Day, we also propose adding warm-weather appropriate uniform options to the current catalogue. Presently, students have limited choices, which may not be suitable for Mississauga's varied climate. Providing alternatives like skirts and shorts would ensure students' comfort and help them focus better on their studies during warmer days.

These changes are not just about clothing; they are about enhancing the student experience and ensuring that attending school is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Let's unify our voices to bring back Civvies Day and update the uniform policy in accordance with the needs of Father Michael Goetz's students.

Sign this petition to urge the school administration to reinstate Civvies Day and broaden uniform options, making school a more inclusive and adaptive environment for all students.
