The Issue

To the Board of Education and School Administration - Surrey Muslim School

We, the undersigned parents, guardians are writing with deep concern regarding the recent decision to discontinue Bus Route #2 beginning in September 2026.

For many families, this announcement has come as a shock. Bus Route #2 is not merely a convenience it is an essential service that enables our children to attend school safely and consistently each day.

Many families who rely on this route have working parents whose professional and family responsibilities make daily school drop-off and pick-up extremely difficult, and in some cases, simply not feasible. Families have organized their work schedules, childcare arrangements and daily lives around the availability of school transportation. Discontinuing this route would create a significant and unexpected burden, particularly for those without flexible work schedules or alternative transportation support.

Most importantly, transportation difficulties should not place families in a position where they must reconsider whether their children can continue attending a school and community they deeply value.

We understand that transportation decisions may involve financial, operational, or logistical challenges. However, before eliminating an established bus route, we strongly believe the full impact on affected students and families should be carefully considered and meaningful alternatives explored.

We respectfully request that the Board of Education:

Reconsider and reverse the decision to discontinue Bus Route #2 .
Engage directly with affected parents and guardians before making a final decision.
Explore possible alternatives, including route restructuring, adjusted stops other sustainable solutions that would allow transportation service to continue.
Provide greater transparency regarding the reasons for discontinuing the route and the alternatives considered before reaching this decision.
When a decision has such a significant impact on students and families, parents deserve an opportunity to be heard and to work collaboratively with the Board toward a practical solution.

Our goal is not confrontation. Our goal is to protect the stability, accessibility, and continuity of our children’s education.

We chose this school because we value the education, environment and muslim community it provides. We sincerely hope transportation will not become the reason families are forced to make the heartbreaking decision to withdraw their children and seek another school simply because they can no longer manage daily transportation.

We urge the Board of Education and School Administration to hear the collective voices of affected families and work with parents to find a practical and sustainable solution that allows our children to continue attending the school and community they call their own.
