The Issue

I'm a student at Fieldcrest High School, and along with many of my classmates, I'm struggling to manage the new class schedule. Last year, we followed a block scheduling system, where we had fewer classes each day but for longer periods of time. This format allowed us to delve deeper into subjects, complete assignments, and truly absorb the material. It was a system that worked well for us, and many students found their academic performance improved significantly under it.

However, this academic year, the school decided to change the schedule. Now, with shorter class periods and more subjects in one day, keeping up has become increasingly difficult. This change has not only added stress but has also impacted our ability to excel in each class. Assignments pile up, and the quick turnover of lessons means we can't always fully comprehend the content. This is especially challenging for students involved in extracurriculars, who are juggling practice and homework.

Numerous studies show that block schedules can drastically improve learning by providing students the time they need to work on projects, engage deeply in topics, and reduce transition time between classes. According to the National Education Association, block scheduling helps students hone their attention and produce high-quality work since they are not rushed through lessons.

We believe returning to the block scheduling system would have a palpable impact on our education and mental well-being. Our school principal, board members, and decision-makers need to understand the struggles current students face with the new schedule. Bringing back the block schedule would greatly benefit us in terms of time management, stress reduction, and knowledge acquisition.

Please sign this petition to urge Fieldcrest High School administration to reinstate block scheduling, so all students can thrive academically and emotionally. Your support could make a meaningful difference in our education journey.
